Episode 43: The Straight Shootin' View Episode 32 - Greg Clarke, FA Dinosaur or FA Deflector?

Is Greg Clarke a dinosaur that got caught slipping verbally or did he slip deliberately, to deflect attention from the lack of diversity in top FA roles?
In this episode Straight Shootin' LJA discusses the recent abhorrent comments from FA chairman Greg Clarke (including using the phrase 'coloured' in reference to black people) that led to his resignation from his post as chairman of the Football Association.
SSLJA discusses the theory that because Greg Clarke has been in business and football for so long, he knows how to play the pr game and he basically 'took one for the team' and sacrificed himself by deliberately making outdated comments.

Episode 43: Pitch Talk Special Feature - Lockdown 2.0, Grass Roots Football & Youth Mental Health Part 2

Part 2 of our special feature segment continues as Straight Shootin' LJA and JBK take a deep dive into and discuss the latest Government mandated Lockdown due to the rising number of Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in England.
They look at the lockdown resulting in the cessation of all football and Sport in general at Grass Roots level and ask how much of an impact did the first 3 month lockdown back in March have on those areas in particular.
LJA & JBK discuss some very concerning facts and figures concerning the detrimental impact on young people, along with looking at the potentially detrimental impact this 2nd lockdown (Nov-Dec 2020) could have on the mental and physical health of young people and the potential long term effects on Grass Roots level football going forward.

This episode looks at the announcement of the 2nd lockdown in England and accusations of gender inequality against the FA, due to all academies at FA WSL level and below being closed until the end of the lockdown, but boys academies being allowed to continue and remain open, even though some of these academies share the same facilities, along with the Women's FA Cup being paused but the Mens equivalent being allowed to continue..

Episode 39: The Straight Shootin' View Episode 31 - Taking a knee, a token gesture from football?

Is taking the knee before football matches just a token gesture, or will it actually help usher in real change in the game?
In this episode Straight Shootin' LJA discusses the issue of football clubs 'Taking a knee' in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and whether or not it has become just a token gesture, especially after some very enlightened comments by Les Ferdinand about why QPR players didn't take a knee before a match v Coventry City in September 2020.
SSLJA discusses the theory that football (especially the Premier League) has damaged its own reputation and has jumped on the Black Lives Matter bandwagon to salvage PR, when real change needs to happen to enable racial equality in football, especially at the top levels of the game.
